Many people assume engineering and creative writing have little in common. In reality, both disciplines begin with curiosity.
Engineering asks, “How can this problem be solved?”
Storytelling asks, “What happens if it is?”
For much of my professional career, I worked as a technical analyst supporting private industry as well as organizations including the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Air Force, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security. My work involved research, analysis, and solving complex engineering problems.
Along the way, I authored technical books, research papers, and hundreds of technical reports. Technical writing taught me precision, organization, and the importance of explaining complex ideas clearly.
But there was another passion waiting to be explored.
Science fiction has always fascinated me because it combines scientific possibility with limitless imagination. Instead of documenting existing technology, fiction allows us to imagine technologies that may someday become reality.
Writing novels gave me the opportunity to merge both worlds.
The engineering mindset naturally influences how I build stories. Rather than creating technology simply because it sounds impressive, I ask whether it could realistically exist based on current scientific understanding.
That doesn’t mean every answer already exists. Fiction provides room to explore unanswered questions, hypothetical discoveries, and unexpected consequences.
At the heart of every novel, however, are people.
Readers remember characters long after they remember scientific concepts. That’s why I focus on creating believable individuals who face difficult choices, unexpected discoveries, and moral dilemmas that challenge their understanding of the world.
Science provides the framework.
Human nature provides the story.
Every book represents the intersection of decades of engineering experience and a lifelong appreciation for imaginative storytelling. My hope is that readers not only enjoy the adventure but also leave with a renewed curiosity about science, innovation, and the future.
